As a firefighter, you have comprehensive health plans that cover you for medical, vision, and dental care. The cost of this care is covered primarily by your employer, and a portion also comes out of your paycheck every month. Your VEBA HRA is also there to cover any medical expenses you have until you reach your deductible. Between your health plans and health reimbursement account, we’ve got you covered.

But how are the costs sorted out behind the scenes? What happens between leaving your doctor’s office and receiving an Explanation of Benefits — and maybe a bill — in the mail?
